Free Kundli Online: How to Read Your Vedic Birth Chart in English
A complete beginner's guide to reading your Vedic birth chart (Kundli). Understand planets, houses, signs, and what each placement means.
What is a Kundli?
A Kundli (also called Janam Kundali or Vedic birth chart) is a map of the sky at the exact moment you were born. It shows the positions of all nine planets (Navagraha) across twelve houses and twelve zodiac signs. This map is unique to every individual — even twins born minutes apart can have different Kundlis.
In Vedic astrology (Jyotish), the Kundli is the foundation of all predictions. Marriages are matched using Kundli Milan, careers are predicted from the 10th house, health from the 6th house, and spiritual potential from the 12th house.
The Nine Planets (Navagraha)
Sun (Surya): Soul, authority, father, government
Moon (Chandra): Mind, emotions, mother, home
Mars (Mangal): Energy, courage, siblings, property
Mercury (Budha): Intelligence, communication, business
Jupiter (Guru): Wisdom, luck, children, spirituality
Venus (Shukra): Love, beauty, marriage, luxury
Saturn (Shani): Karma, discipline, delays, longevity
Rahu: Ambition, foreign elements, illusion
Ketu: Spirituality, liberation, past life karma
The Twelve Houses
Each house represents a different area of life. The 1st house (Lagna/Ascendant) is the most important — it represents your physical body and personality. The planet that rules your Lagna sign becomes your chart ruler and heavily influences your entire life.
How to Read Your Kundli
Start with your Lagna (Ascendant) — the sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth. Then identify which planets are in which houses. A planet in its own sign or exaltation sign is powerful. A planet in enemy sign or debilitation is weak.
