What is Rahu Kaal?
Rahu Kaal (also spelled Rahu Kalam or Rahu Kal) is a period of approximately 90 minutes each day that is considered inauspicious in Vedic astrology. It is governed by Rahu — the north node of the Moon, a shadow planet associated with illusion, sudden events, foreign elements, and the unknown.
During Rahu Kaal, starting new work, signing contracts, making investments, beginning journeys, or performing auspicious ceremonies is traditionally avoided. However, it is perfectly fine to continue existing work or perform routine tasks.
Rahu Kaal Timings by Day of the Week
The timing of Rahu Kaal shifts every day. The standard calculation divides the daylight hours (approximately 6 AM to 6 PM) into 8 equal parts, and Rahu Kaal falls on a specific part based on the day:
Monday: 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM
Tuesday: 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM
Wednesday: 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM
Thursday: 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM
Friday: 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Saturday: 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM
Sunday: 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM

What to Avoid During Rahu Kaal
Avoid: Starting a new business or job, signing agreements, buying property, beginning a journey, medical procedures, marriage ceremonies, and performing havan or yagna.
What is Allowed During Rahu Kaal
Rahu Kaal is actually considered auspicious for worshipping Rahu itself, performing Rahu shanti puja, studying astrology, and meditation. Routine work, meetings, and continuing existing projects are completely fine.
The Exception Rule
If an emergency demands action during Rahu Kaal, chanting "Om Rahave Namah" 18 times before beginning is said to neutralise the negative influence.
